A Great Domain NameGreat Domain Name

A Great Domain Name can be something that is easy to remember, catchy and above all draws interest from people.

It can sometimes be disappointing when you think up a Great Domain Name only to discover that it’s already taken. You do have a few options that you can take to get the next best thing.

Choosing  a Great Domain Name

When it comes to actually choosing a alternative Great Domain Name the first few steps you should take are:

  • See whether another generic top-level domain (gTLD) name is available for your domain name (i.e. .net, .info, .biz)
  • Come up with a domain name that is close – try adding another word onto the end of your domain name.
  • Attempt to buy the domain name you’re after

Domain Name registers like NameCheap and GoDaddy also usually return alternative names if your domain name is taken.

Many Internet experts recommend a .com extension. This is seen as the best domain name option to take from a branding view-point. The next best being a .net. It is usually not recommended to use any other gTLD’s, however the day will come when these will also be used on mass.

Lack of Great Domain Names

Given that many catchy Domain Names are taken up quickly, you may wonder what name you can have for a business or personal website. What you should keep in your mind is that many people purchase Domain Names and never actually build any content. The domain basically just sits there.

With this in mind, if your domain name is taken be sure to do a little research as that domain name may actually be available for purchase. And of course if the asking price meets your expectation than you can have that Great Domain Name you are after.
