The Truth About Building Backlinks
Building backlinks is a crucial element for search engine ranking and therefore it is an important step in search engine optimization. Backlinks, in the simplest form are incoming links to either a specific page on a website or to the main domain itself.
How Can You Build Quality Backlinks?
There are many ways to build quality backlinks, with the most prominent and effective being:
- Article Directories – Submitting unique articles to article directories is a great way to increase your build backlinks. Many atricle directories allow you to include 2 or 3 links pointing out. You can link out to a specific page on your website to elevate its backlink count or just link back to the main website.
- Web Directories – Many web directories exist these days that allow you to submit your website along with some details of your website to their directory. Both free and paid directory submission is available so it comes down to what your budgetary constraints are.
- Commenting on Blogs – One of the easiest ways of creating a backlink to your site is through the comments on blogs. By adding your sites URL when posting comments on other blogs you will receive a one-way backlink to your site.
- Posting on Forums – Posting in forums is a great way to build backlinks. By having your URL in your signature, every time you post in the forum your URL will also be added which is another link back to your website.You do however need to ensure that you are participating in providing information and feedback with others in the forum or you may face being banned.
If you are following strict white-hat SEO techniques (which you should be), building quality backlinks can be a time-consuming task – especially if you are new to the concept. Many spend countless hours in trying to increase their backlinks – the important rule here is that it is the quality of the backlink (website pointing to you) not purely the quantity that will increase your standing in the search engine ranking.
Breaking-up the task of building backlinks will not only make it easier it will also allow your backlinks count to grow gradually, which will look more natural to search engines. Perform one backlink building activity a day or dedicate one day from your schedule just to building backlinks – in the long run it all counts.

Many follow and use black hat methods, but you and I both know that while this may yield quick results, white hat will eventually win the day.
I absolutely agree that using white hat technicques is the best way go long term and expect that black hat techniques will ultimately become unstuck. The more prevalent and effective a black hat technique is, the more likely I think Google will be to spend resources to track it down. And Google definitely has deep pockets.
I have to agree with all 3 of you, Black Hat techniques are just downright rude, and when you think about it, the proponents can’t believe in their product too much if they have to resort to such measures! The only black hat I use is the one I have when I ride my horse.

Glad you found it useful. Remember that building backlinks is a gradual process and that the quality of the backlinks is more important than the quantity.
It is difficult, because there are so many black-hatters who take advantage of link building newbies who do not know better. I have had tons of my clients ask me about “backlink packages” that someone has offered to sell them…
These people who are building backlinks using blackhat methods such as Xrumer blasts makes me sick. Great article by the way, really enjoyed it.
